Neurotrophic Factors are a group of growth factor proteins that induce the survival, development and function of different populations of neurone. Many are also active on glia cells. Neurotrophins are a sub-group of the factors and include Nerve Growth Factor, Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor and Neurotrophins 3 and 4/5.
While many factors act on receptors that lead to neuronal differentiation and survival, some are also active in signalling neuronal death, such as via the p75NTR neurotrophin receptor. Neurotrophins are therefore one of the most intensively studied group of molecules in the nervous system. While they were discovered by their activity within the nervous system, their action outside the brain is well recognised with activity now being shown across almost all body systems.
Biosensis offers a wide range of antibodies to many neurotrophic factors as well as their receptors. These antibodies have been well validated in research laboratories around the world and used extensively in top quality publications. For example, our p75NTR monoclonal antibodies MLR2 and MC192 are amongst the most highly cited antibodies in this class. Biosensis antibodies to the neurotrophins NGF and BDNF can be used for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, FACS and biological inhibition (see for example our very popular NGF and BDNF antibodies, the high sensitivity, validated rapid ELISA for BDNF and our highly specific antibodies to proBDNF and proNGF). Combined with the numerous ELISA kits, Biosensis offers one of the widest ranges of quality reagents for neurotrophic factor research. Our technical experts are available to assist you in ensuring you spend time on your research, not on testing poor quality antibodies.
