| Description |
Galanin is a 29-amino acid peptide widely distributed in the peripheral and central nervous systems. In the brain, the highest concentrations are observed in the hypothalamus and particularly in the nerve terminals of the median eminence. It contracts smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract, regulates growth hormone release, modulates insulin release, and may be involved in the control of adrenal secretion. |
