| Description |
There are 2 named isoforms, a long and a short isoform, produced by alternative splicing. The long isoform is predominantly expressed in heart, brain and skeletal muscle. Both isoforms are also expressed throughout the central nervous system including the spinal cord. Deletions of the EDRK-rich factor 1 gene, often accompany deletions of the neighboring SMN1 gene in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) patients, and so it is thought that this gene may be a modifier of the SMA phenotype. |
