||A synthetic peptide (MFSGFNADYEASSSRC; aa 2-17) conjugated to diphtheria toxoid has been used as the immunogen. The peptide is homologous with the corresponding sequence derived from cFos protein in rat, mouse, hamster and cat.

||IH: Fixed, frozen sections preferred. Zamboni's fixative works best or PLP fixation; whole serum has higher background in paraffin sections. Key to success with c-Fos is light fixation as antibody needs to penetrate to nucleus for proper staining. This antibody is a whole serum thus background is higher and dilutions range is more limited than for IgG or affinity purified version of Sheep anti-c-Fos.
Not recommended for western blotting applications. Mouse monoclonal antibody M-1752-100 or rabbit polyclonal antibody R-1751-50 are excellent alternatives for western blotting.
||This antiserum shows a high level of specificity for cFOS confirmed by immunohostochemistry.
||This antiserum is known to react with rat, rabbit and hamster c-Fos.

Note that, antisera raised against synthetic peptides are quite often very specific for that peptide ie, only one single amino acid difference may be enough to restrict the specificity to a particular molecule. ||Reconstitute in 100 µl of sterile water. Centrifuge to remove any insoluble material.
||After reconstitution keep aliquots at -20ºC for a higher stability, and at 4ºC with an appropriate antibacterial agent. Glycerol (1:1) may be added for an additional stability. Avoid repetitive freeze/thaw cycles.
