| Antigen: |
A synthetic peptide (SLVQGLTP PPDFNQCLK) as part of rat Connexin-40 protein (aa: 253-269) conjugated to diphtheria toxoid has been used as the immunogen. |
| Other Names: |
Gap junction alpha-5 protein, Cx40. GENE NAME: Gja5; Cxn-40 |
| Accession: |
CXA5_RAT |
| Description: |
FUNCTION: One gap junction consists of a cluster of closely packed pairs of transmembrane channels, the connexons, through which materials of low molecular weight diffuse from one cell to a neighboring cell. SUBUNIT: A connexon is composed of a hexamer of connexins. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; multi-pass membrane protein. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Highly expressed in lung. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the connexin family. Alpha-type (group II) subfamily. |

Whole serum |
| Applications: |
Immunofluorescence, Western blot. A dilution of 1:10000 to 1: 50000 is recommended for these applications. The optimal working dilution should be determined by the end user. |
| Specificity: |
Western blotting of cell membarnes of COS cells transiently transfected with cDNA encoding Connexin-40 shows two bands of molecular weight 38 and 40 kDa which are abolished by preincubation with the immunising peptide. No such bands are detected in western blots of membranes from non-transfected cells or cells transfected with cDNA encoding Connexin-37, Connexin-43 or Connexin-45. |
| Cross-react: |
This antiserum recognises Connexin-40 in rat. |
| Blast it: |
If you would like to use this product in another species other than those specified here, or to see the shared identity between the immunogen used here in different speices and/or other molecules, simply copy the immunogen (from the Immunogen field) and paste it HERE and blast/format it. Note that, antisera raised against synthetic peptides are quite often very specific for that peptide ie, only one single amino acid difference may be enough to restrict the specificity to a particular molecule. Regardless, you can always contact us if you need assistance with this. |
| Form: |
Lyophilised |
| Reconstitution: |
Reconstitute in 100 µl of sterile water. Centrifuge to remove any insoluble material. |
| Storage: |
After reconstitution keep aliquots at -20ºC for a higher stability, and at 4ºC with an appropriate antibacterial agent. Glycerol (1:1) may be added for an additional stability. Avoid repetitive freeze/thaw cycles. |
| Expiry Date: |
12 months after purchase |
