  • Scientific Background
Semaphorin 4A is a transmembrane protein that inhibits axonal extension by providing local signals to specify territories inaccessible for growing axons. Defects in Semaphorin 4A cause retinitis pigmentosa which leads to degeneration of retinal photoreceptor cells. Defects in Semaphorin 4A are also the cause of cone-rod dystrophy type 10.
