Scientific BackgroundGPx-P belongs to the glutathione peroxidase family which are responsible for the detoxification of hydrogen peroxide. It protects cells and enzymes from oxidative damage, by catalyzing the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, lipid peroxides and organic hydroperoxide, by glutathione. GPx-P is secreted in plasma and exists as a homotetramer.
