- Scientific Background Synovial sarcoma, X breakpoint 2 (SSX2) proteins may act as repressors of transcription. Chromosomal translocations involving SSX2 have been implicated in synovial sarcoma. SSX2 is expressed at high levels in testis and at low levels in thyroid. At least 2 isoforms are produced by alternative splicing. SSX2 isoform 2 is the longer form of this protein.
