Scientific BackgroundCD8 is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes. The antigen is either a homodimer composed of two alpha chains or a disulphide-linked heterodimer composed of one alpha and one beta chain. At least 2 isoforms of the CD8 alpha chain and 6 isoforms of the beta chain are produced by alternative splicing.
