- Application Details Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Western Blotting (WB). A concentration of 0.5-1.0 µg/mL is recommended for WB. Rat synaptophysin has a predicted length of 307 residues and a MW of 38 kDa. A concentration of 1.0-2.0 µg/mL is recommended to detect synaptophysin in formalin/acetone fixed tissues. Biosensis recommends optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

- Scientific Background Synaptophysin is a 38 kDa glycoprotein present in the membranes of neuronal presynaptic vesicles in brain, spinal cord, retina, vesicles of adrenal medulla, neuromuscular junctions and endocrine cells. It is also expressed by neuroendocrine cells, both normal and neoplastic. Synaptophysin is a useful marker for the identification of normal neuroendocrine cells and neuroendocrine neoplasms.
