  • Scientific Background Binds to photoactivated, phosphorylated RHO and terminates RHO signaling via G-proteins by competing with G-proteins for the same binding site on RHO (PubMed: 8003967, PubMed: 25205354). May play a role in preventing light-dependent degeneration of retinal photoreceptor cells (By similarity). Ref: uniprot.org

    Images, Protocols & SDS

  • Left: Immunohistochemical analysis of arrestin-1 distribution in pig retina. Arrestin (green) is most abundant in the outer segments (OS) and inner surface of the outer nuclear layer (ONL) and can be used to identify components of rod photoreceptor cells (cone photoreceptors have a different arrestin isotype). Other retinal layers are inner segments (IS), outer plexiform layer (OPL), inner nuclear layer (INL) and inner plexiform layer (IPL). The RNA binding protein FOX2 appears red and immunoreactivity is seen in nuclei of horizontal neurons and some other neurons in the INL and IPL. Nuclear DNA appears blue. Right: Western blot analysis of arrestin in bovine retinal extracts. The antibody stains one specific band at 48 kDa, corresponding to retinal arrestin.
