Product DescriptiongoogleThe Rat TrkC ELISA kit is a sandwich ELISA. The capture antibody is a mouse monoclonal TrkC antibody pre-coated onto the 96-well strip plates provided in the kit. Rat test samples and standards of known TrkC concentration are added to these wells and allowed to complex with the bound TrkC antibody. A biotinylated TrkC goat polyclonal antibody is then added. This detection antibody binds to the antigen thus completing the sandwich. After washing, an enzyme Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase complex (ABC) is added which binds to the second antibody. The peroxidase substrate TMB is added to induce a coloured reaction product. The intensity of this coloured product is directly proportional to the concentration of TrkC present in the samples. The purpose of this kit is the in-vitro quantitative determination of rat TrkC in samples such as culture supernatant and cell lysates. This kit has been configured for research use only and is not to be used in diagnostic or clinical procedures.

Scientific BackgroundTrkC is a member of the neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase family. TrkC is a membrane-bound receptor that upon neurotrophin binding, phosphorylates itself and members of the MAPK pathway. TrkC is the receptor for neurotrophin-3 (NT-3). Signalling through TrkC leads to cell differentiation and may play a role in the development of proprioceptive neurons that sense body position. SUBUNIT: Exists in a dynamic equilibrium between monomeric (low affinity) and dimeric (high affinity) structures. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; single-pass type I membrane protein. ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTS: 4 named isoforms produced by alternative splicing. Additional isoforms seem to exist. Mutations in TrkC have been associated with medulloblastomas, secretory breast carcinomas and other cancers.
